Baptism

Ready for a Fresh Start? Here's What Baptism Means

Simply put, baptism is a public way to show you’ve decided to follow Jesus. It’s a symbol of being washed clean from sin and starting a new life with Christ.

It’s a step of faith that shows obedience to Jesus. Through baptism, we show that we are living for Him.

Baptism is for anyone who believes in Jesus and has committed to following Him.
Matthew 28:19

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”

Acts 2:38

“Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins.”

Types of Baptisms

There are different forms of baptism, each holding spiritual significance:

Water Baptism (Immersion)

This is the full-body immersion in water, representing the washing away of sin and new life in Christ. This is how we baptize at Encounter Atlanta.

Holy Spirit Baptism

This is when a believer receives the Holy Spirit’s power, which can happen before or after water baptism.

Infant Baptism

We don’t baptize infants, but we do offer child dedications. Baptism is for those old enough to understand and choose to follow Jesus.

Myths & Misconceptions

Baptism Saves You

Salvation comes through faith in Jesus, not baptism. Baptism is a symbol of your faith, not the source of it.

You Have to Be Perfect

Baptism is for anyone who decides to follow Jesus—imperfection is expected! It’s about starting a journey with Him.

Baptism as a Baby Counts

We believe in believer’s baptism—meaning you get baptized when you personally decide to follow Jesus.

Baptism Fixes Everything

It’s an important step, but life may still be tough afterward. Baptism is just the beginning of your faith journey.

You Need to Get Baptized More Than Once

Once you’ve been baptized, you don’t need to do it again. It’s a one-time declaration of faith that remains valid, even through life’s challenges.

Celebrate Your Faith Through Baptism

Baptism is a beautiful outward expression of an inward transformation. As a follower of Christ, it’s a powerful way to publicly declare your faith and commitment. If you’re ready to take this next step in your journey with God, we invite you to sign up for baptism.
