A Christian devotional on humility, obedience, and a “yes” to God positions us for purpose and being chosen by God in unexpected ways.
Scripture Reference
Luke 1:26-38
Sermon Highlights
God Chooses the Unlikely: God’s calling does not depend on background, status, education, or accomplishments. He chose Mary—a poor, teenage girl from obscurity—demonstrating His nature to select those overlooked by society.
Humility Over Accomplishment: Genuine humility and obedience are valued above degrees, accolades, or worldly prestige. Spiritual arrogance is cautioned against; God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.
The Danger of Cultural Influence: The revolution in culture and the distractions of the world can dull spiritual sensitivity. The church must influence the world, not be influenced by it.
Full Submission to God: Destiny requires saying a complete “yes” to God. Partial obedience or living a double life delays God’s purpose for you.
Brokenness Precedes Being Chosen: Brokenness, teachability, and servanthood are keys to being entrusted with God’s greatest miracles and plans.

Reflection Questions
1. In what ways have I allowed pride or my accomplishments to hinder my spiritual posture before God?
2. Am I allowing cultural trends or distractions to influence how I live out my faith?
3. What is God asking me to say “yes” to that I’ve resisted or delayed?
4. Have I overlooked others—or myself—because of a worldly view of qualification
5. How can I intentionally walk in humility and brokenness this week?
Action Steps
1. Practice: Find practical ways to serve others this week, especially those you might otherwise overlook.
2. Say “Yes”: Identify an area where you’ve been hesitant and commit to full obedience.
3. Disconnect: Limit your consumption of social media or entertainment to spend focused time with God.
4. Honor: Remember the role your church and faith community have played in your spiritual journey; re-engage where you’ve become distant.
5. Reflect & Repent: Take time in prayer, asking God to reveal any areas of pride, arrogance, or double-mindedness—then repent and seek His help.
Prayer
“Father, Thank You for choosing the unlikely and for seeing beyond what the world values. Forgive me for pride, divided loyalty, or allowing the world to shape my desires. Create in me a humble heart that says “yes” to You without reservation. Break me where I need to be broken, and use me for Your purposes. Fill me afresh with Your Spirit, so that my life brings glory to You and honors the calling You have placed within me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
